It is an acceptable fact in the boxing world that Floyd Mayweather Jr. already carved a name in the world of boxing. His being undefeated up to now is a big factor and accomplishment to be reckoned with. On top of that he defeated famous boxers like Diego Corrales, Arturo Gatti, Oscar De La Hoya, Ricky Hatton, Juan Manuel Marquez and recently Sugar Shane Mosley. There is no question, he is a talented boxer who mastered and improved the fundamentals of boxing which he applies in all of his boxing matches.
He started training in boxing at an early age under the guidance and supervision of his disciplinarian father and trainer Floyd Mayweather Sr. who himself was a boxer who fought Sugar Ray Leonard but lost. Floyd Mayweather Jr. is just like Tigers Woods the famous golf player who also started at an early age under the guidance of his father Earl Woods. Floyd devoted most of his childhood training in boxing instead of hanging around in the streets.

Mayweather is a good person also seemingly a reasonable man despite his being very vocal against his opponents. Floyd always trash talks his opponent to build up the fight and to get into his opponents head, affecting them mentally in the fight but as he said before this is just for the purpose of promoting the fight so more people will buy it. His father Floyd Sr. is more extreme in releasing statements like when he attacks Freddie Roach by calling Joke Coach Roach and saying Manny Pacquiao is one dimensional with no skill but still it’s just for promotional purpose only.
Boxing enthusiasts consider this exciting and entertaining.
Mayweather Sr. just like his brother Roger Mayweather are just very supportive to Floyd Jr. which is only natural since they are family.
He trains with proper discipline leading to good physical condition at the time of the fight. He can also handle his negotiation by himself to get a favorable contract.
On the other hand, Manny “Pac-Man” Pacquiao, the “Boxer of the Decade”, can be considered a very rare species in the boxing world because of his unique style of boxing and training. His boxing technique which he acquired from an old Filipino trainer whom he did not forget to extend his gratitude by visiting him immediately after his first success in boxing. Manny Pacquiao mastered and improved this technique of boxing which is now being improved by his famous coach Freddie Roach who just received the “Trainer of the Year” award.

It has been seen and proven that the Pac-Man has an extraordinary speed which most boxers whom he fought usually claim that they didn’t see where the punches came from. He has of course strong or powerful punches that any of them can cause an unexpected knockdown to his opponent. This is why it is risky for fighters to trade blows with the Pac-man.
On top of this strength he has also strong stamina and energy that up to the last round his punches are still dangerous. Another boxing technique that he uses is that he can move side to side with speed at the same time throwing knockdown punches.
Manny Pacquiao came from poverty and very serious financial hardship that awakened his young mind to survive this poverty – this paved the way for him to start boxing at an early age as a source of income to help take care of his family.
He is of course a humble person with a strong faith in God and he even prays that nobody will be seriously get injured in the fight even if he wins.
He always states that boxing is a job and it is his duty to entertain the fans with exciting fights.
He also wants to win to bring honor to his country of the Philippines where he is now an elected Congressman in Sarangani Province.
If the Floyd Mayweather Jr. versus Manny Pacquiao fight doesn’t materialize it will not tarnish their legacy because these two great boxers are already considered legends in the sport of boxing.
As boxing fans let us avoid being fanatics and focus on the positive aspects of both these good and great fighters.

Amen to you, brother Doug for hitting the nail on the head multiple times. Mayweather will soon realize that it is the people who paid for PPV and made him rich; denying them of the Pacquiao fight will cause resentment.

Good article and good responses. I am an American and proud of it. I am a
Pacquiao fan and proud of that as well. I enjoy trash talk, but only after a
fight is signed or all signs point to the fight being signed. Trash talk is good for
the fights and I believe most fans like it. However, accusing someone of things
that there is no proof of is totally unprofessional. I have been saying for awhile
now that Castillo beat Mayweather in their first encounter. Floyd is NOT the only
undefeated fighter out there, and there are plenty of other fighters that have
had better records. Here is my biggest pet peeve, PPV buys. There are always
2 fighters in the ring, so therefore not 1 of them fighters can say that they were
the biggest draw. Floyd can scream that he is the big draw until he is blue in the
face, the fact remains that there are still 2 fighters in the ring. Until HBO puts a
simple fix to PPV buys, buy allowing the customers to choose the fighter they
are paying to see, PPV numbers mean nothing except a higher pay day for all
involved. HBO, it won’t be that hard, with all the technology we have these
days, it would be so easy to do. No matter how the customer orders, it’s as
simple as a mouse click, the press of button on the phone, or simply saying
the fighters name.
Well, I guess I got a bit carried away with that. I’ll stop now, I could go on
forever, but I’ll wait for another article to reply to.

The problem with Mayweather logic is this: “If I accuse you of using ‘roids, then you must be guilty. No need for proof. If you do not come clean (submit to random blood testing until fight time), you must still be juicing.”
If Pacquiao submits, gets weak and loses, it is a ‘proof’ that he is unable to use the ‘roids. If he wins, it is a ‘proof” that A-side meth is undetectable. Either way, he loses.
How can we test for a mythical A-side meth if we do not know it? Drugs cannot be found if they don’t exist no matter how much testing you do. The Mayweathers may just be letting everyone in on first game called wild goose chase.
Test for “it” every second – it will not matter a bit. In fact, not a drop of blood is needed to catch an imaginary drug. The court of public opinion has already found him guilty. But aha, vials and vials are needed to test for PEDs etc etc that are already known. This second game is funny: let all the dogs bark up the wrong tree.
For USADA that is pushing for drug testing on Mayweather’s behalf, it is a win-win situation. If any drug is found, its testing works. If none is found, testing is effective deterrent.
Mayweather good? I doubt it. How could Mayweather be good if he envies and says a lot of bad things about his opponents that will tarnish their reputation? Hyping is different from ill will.
Floyd jr. mission in boxing is not yet secured and accomplished. He need to fight Pacquiao to settle the score to who is the GREATEST.

Mikel is right. Floyd Mayweather is not the only undefeated fighter (boxer). Some of those (active or not) are equally talented and considered best in their division. On the other hand Manny Pacquiao remained the only boxer (to this moment) who achieved a 7 world titles in as many weight classes and so far the only holder of 4 lineal belts. It’s true they have their own positive attributes and you can not compare each other because by doing so, Pacman is far greater than Money. Nice article Mr. Author.

I disagree with the part of this article that claims that neither one of these fighter’s legacy will be tarnished if this fight does not happen. This could be one of the biggest fights in boxing history, and it’s definitely a legacy make or break type of fight. I am sitting back watching Mayweather’s reputation quickly change from champ to chump as he continues to make excuse after excuse why he shouldn’t take this fight. Fans may be slow sometimes, but most are catching on to his game and are now labeling him as a coward. If he doesn’t sign the contract, it will be the defining moment in his career. Nobody will ever mention Mayweather’s name again without mentioning how he refused to fight Pacquiao. His refusal to take this fight will overshadow any accomplishments he has achieved in the ring. I think most athletes are judged fairly in the end, and this fight has finally exposed a major flaw in Floyd’s game. That flaw is his inability to overcome his fear of a very dangerous opponent like Pacquiao, and that is how Floyd will be remembered unfortunately.
They say America is the land of the brave. But how could that be when you Floyd is shaming this great american race. You ain’t got no balls. Why don’t you just sign and fight. Don’t be a coward… a chicken… a ducker. Prove to the american people that you really are one of them, and that you deserve to be called the greatest boxer of all time as you claim to be.
