Will Floyd Mayweather Jr. fight Manny Pacquiao or Retire?

The clock is ticking and once again the final decision on whether or not the Manny Pacquiao vs Floyd Mayweather Jr. fight happens lies in the hands of Floyd “Money” Mayweather. Pacquiao’s promoter Bob Arum told BoxingScene.com that the negotiations for the proposed Pacquiao/Mayweather fight are finished and now it’s up to Floyd Mayweather Jr. to make the fight happen.

“We’re waiting on Floyd Mayweather. Floyd has to decide whether he’s going to fight this year or next year or not at all,” Arum said. “It’s up to him, man. He isn’t up to any obligation. We want a fight this year, and if he doesn’t take the fight this year, then we’ll find somebody else.”

Arum is giving Floyd Mayweather a two week notice, if he doesn’t agree to the fight, then, Manny Pacquiao will move on and fight Antonio Margarito or Miguel Cotto in a rematch, possibly, at the Dallas Cowboys NFL football stadium where Manny Pacquiao last fought against Joshua Clottey in March.

Some fans question if Floyd Mayweather Jr. is willing to risk his flawless undefeated record against a tough, prime, and ferocious fighter like the “Pacman” Manny Pacquiao or just retire with his undefeated record intact. The money involved is hard to pass up, so, this could be a chance worth taking for Floyd Mayweather Jr. who is known  for his heavy gambling and lavish spending sprees.

The way I see it, Floyd will sign eventually. This scenario is a lot typical when he signed with Mosley, he waited and waited till the last moment. He really put a lot of drama in all his decisions. There’s too much money on the table here, Floyd
love gambling and lavish lifestyle, he needs all the money that he could get to support that lifestyle. If he is that wise as he claimed, he should settle this question of who is the best once and for all to finally findout on what page in the history of boxing will he be. He is in denial if not fighting Pacman doesn’t prove him any less greater than the Pacman, the question will always linger there, whenever the subject comesout. On the other hand, Pacman can always claim, Floyd don’t want to fight me, what can I do?

It is hard to believe that fans still debate this matter seriously and patiently. I have never seen a fight behave himself as shamefully as Floyd – the constant demands, posturing, and stalling. And regarding the money split – there is no rational basis for it: 50% for Floyd of this purse would far exceed a higher per centage of any other fight, right?

How else can you interpret these affairs than that Floyd is either fearful or in some other way inexplicably self-defeating?

Previously, I was a fan of Floyd, the boxer. Regarding Floyd, the person – LET HIM RETIRE! It would be better for boxing to lose him and focus on other events….

  5. FLOYD MAYWEATHER IS VERY AFRAID TO FIGHT PACQUIAO! BELIEVE ME, THIS FIGHT WILL NOT HAPPEN!! THE RESULT OF FLOYD IS A LOT OF EXCUSES RATHER THAN TO SIGN THE AGREEMENT.

It’s funny to me how Arum and his team always speak with the media as if they’ve done everything to make the fight, and Mayweather is the one stalling. Mayweather has been straightforward and clear that he will fight if Manny agrees to RBT. It’s Bob Arum and his team that have been beating around the bush and trying to avoid the tests.

Floyd is a businessman.Mayweather wont fight under Arums Promotion.Part of Floyds demand is a 60/40 money split in his favour.Golden Boy Promotion must promote his fight agaist Pacquiao and not by some blood sucking vultures.

In public view, Floyd makes the boldest claims and tries to convince people that he is the central figure in boxing. Behind close doors at this moment he is scratching his head as he finds himself backed into a corner. He doesn’t want to take this fight, but he is also running out of roadblocks to hide behind that help conceal his fear. If he attempts to play the steroid card or the purse split card again, fans will call his bluff and even his most ardent supporters will write him off as a coward. Currently, the Mayweather team is not trying to figure out a game plan for a fight inside of the ring with Pacquiao, they are at the drawing board trying to figure out a way to smear Pacquiao’s name any way they can. They are devising a plan to make it look like it’s Pacquiao’s fault. There’s no doubt that Mayweather is too frightened of Pacquiao to fight him, but I have to admit, It is entertaining to sit back and watch what kind of excuse, accusation or new smear tactic Floyd and his passe will come up with next. Stay tuned…this might get good.

Slolum, boxers, like Mayweather and Pacquiao, cannot conjure such convoluted complex scenarious. Impossible. No right-thinking, educated sportspeople would go into boxing. Only the desperate, uneducated who needed money to put food on the table.

Boxing is big news in the Philippines. It is below the radar in the civilized nation. Only in bookie joints, mob families, prison cells and gangsters watch low-IQ, uncivilized form of sports, that includes Filipinos. Too bad! It is a fact! Only Filipinos elect a boxer. Not in any civilized world which Filipinos try dying to emulate.
