The final competition night of “American Idol” season 9 was a night of admiration and 24-year-old Crystal Bowersox, of Toledo, Ohio, got the majority of it, receiving praise from the judges on Tuesday night’s finale.

She performed three songs, including the Janis Joplin song “Me and Bobby McGee,” which was her best performance of the season, and after she performed it, Simon Cowell told Bowersox she took them back to the first time they fell in love with her.

Finalist Lee DeWyze, 24, of Mount Prospect, Illinois, chose Simon and Garfunkel’s “The Boxer” as his favorite song of the season, even though his best performance was “Hallelujah!”, the judges gave minor criticism on his performance, and his rendition of R.E.M “Every body hurts” was sub par.

Crystal Bowersox blew the audience away again with her performance of Alannah Myles’ “Black Velvet.” After the performance judge Ellen DeGeneres gave her a standing ovation and Simon said she nailed it.

It was clear who the judges favored, but judging by the performances of both Bowersox and DeWyze can you blame them?  Bowersox was clearly ahead of the class and really came to win.

But anything can happen, sometimes the better performer doesn’t always win, that’s why viewers must vote for the won they feel should win.

This is also American Idol judge Simon Cowell’s last season on the hit show, leaving Randy Jackson as the only remaining original judge, since Paula Abdul and Cowell’s departures. Randy Jackson, Ellen DeGeneres & Kara DioGuardi are the current judges and will likely stay on for next season.

The winner of this season’s “American Idol” will be announced on Wednesday night’s show and will be the final appearance of Idol judge Simon Cowell.
